Join us online the morning of Wednesday, January 12, 2022 for the 14th Research Data Management Roundtable, sponsored by the ACRL/NEC Research Data Services SIG. This event will feature speakers from the Tufts Data Lab in the Tisch Library (Medford) and in the Hirsh Health Sciences Library (Boston) discussing their experience establishing and running their Data Labs. The talk will highlight collaborating to create the space, skills and tools in the lab, student Lab Assistant support, how librarians are involved or supporting this effort, and incorporating digital humanities support. After the talk we will have a Roundtable discussion where attendees can engage with the content and share their own experiences or aspirations.

Speaker Bios

Carolyn Talmadge joined the Research Technology team as the Senior GIS Specialist within Tufts Technology Services (Central University IT) in 2013 after graduating from Tufts School of Engineering with an M.S in Environmental Health. Carolyn received her B.S in Earth and Environmental Sciences in 2009 from Susquehanna University. Carolyn currently works as the Data Lab Services Manager and holds a Course Director position in the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine teaching the GIS for Conservation Medicine course. In Carolyn’s current role as the Data Lab Services Manager, she is responsible for managing the Tisch Library Data Lab and Hirsh Health Sciences Library Data Lab, including hiring, training and supervising Data Lab Assistants, managing the spaces and calendars, updating the website and learning resources, and organizing Data Lab related events. She also provides advanced geospatial consultations, teaches workshops and guest lectures related to GIS, and participates in several projects and grants across all schools and departments utilizing GIS, GPS, remote sensing, and web-mapping applications. Carolyn’s research interests focus on the One Health paradigm and using geospatial tools to investigate the spatial relationships between environmental health, animal health and public health issues facing us in today’s world.

Ari Gofman is the Social Science Data Librarian at Tisch Library, Tufts University. Their professional work includes acting as the liaison to urban planning and economics as well as providing support for social science data needs like finding & reusing data, census data, and data visualization. They regularly contribute to library projects related to queer literature for young people.
