Absentee Ballot Day in the Library

Before the midterm elections, American University Library, in partnership with the Washington, DC League of Women Voters, and AU’s student government and alumni office, hosted its first Absentee Ballot Registration day, helping 1,005 students request absentee ballots. This presentation both makes the case that academic libraries should focus information literacy efforts on helping our students become empowered citizens in addition to successful academics and gives tools for any other library that wants to host such an event in 2020.

Our Campuses, Ourselves: Navigating Institutional Differences in the Creation of an Information Literacy Learning Community

This presentation will share the process of creating a consortial information literacy learning community that has evolved into a multi-faceted programming series for faculty, staff, and librarians to build partnerships, share practical approaches, and encourage pedagogy-centered professional development. It will also share strategies for participants to optimize relationships with neighboring institutions in order to magnify library value and grow IL opportunities while accommodating disparate institutional cultures.
