Leadership Development Committee Workshop April 13: Managing vs. Leading

Seeking to advance in library leadership, or do you find yourself an “accidental” leader/manager due to changing institutional priorities and professional roles?
Join us for a workshop facilitated by Kim McCauley where she will present on topics including:
- Leader vs. manager: the transition people go through to become leaders including characteristics of leadership vs. management, difference approaches between the two and the tie/connection between leadership and employee engagement
- Ability to provide in the moment feedback which are results driven and outcome focused
- Tools/resources attendees can use back in the workplace to strengthen their leadership skills
This all day event will include a keynote, interactive group exercises, and a library leader panel.
Coffee and lunch will be provided.
Kim McCauley (Facilitator) is a passionate Human Resource Executive with over twenty years’ experience developing strategies and leading cross-functional teams to drive business results. She is an expert facilitator, business partner, executive coach, widely recognized for her passion to drive results and improve business outcomes. Kim holds an M.S. in Organization Development from Lesley University and a B.A. in Speech Communications and Business from the University of Rhode Island. She also holds the following certifications:

Carolyn (White) Gamtso (Panelist) is the Head of Reference & Instruction at the University of New Hampshire at Manchester Library. She is interested in creative information literacy initiatives, and enjoys working with faculty to design interactive, experiential student workshops. She has served as the Interim Director of the UNH Manchester, and she participated in the design of a new Learning Commons space in the college’s renovated mill building. Carolyn earned a BA in English from the College of the Holy Cross, an MA in English from Indiana University, and an MLIS from the University of Rhode Island. She is an alumna of the ACRL Immersion Program (Teaching Track 2003 and Program Track 2017).
Diane Klare (Panelist) is the Associate University Librarian for Research and Access Services at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. She is currently serving as the Interim Caleb T. Winchester Librarian, a role she also had from 2014 to 2016. Her most recent article, “The Accidental Director: Critical Skills in Library Leadership” was published by LL&M Online Quarterly Magazine in 2017. Diane has a BA in French and a MBA in international business from the University of Connecticut, an MLS from Southern Connecticut State University, and a CAS from Wesleyan University.
As a member of the Library leadership team, Kimberly Sweetman (Panelist) coordinates library services, collections, and technology initiatives and translates library vision and goals into daily processes and operations for the University of New Hampshire Library. Prior to her time at UNH, Kimberly managed a large public services department at New York University, one of the largest research libraries in North America, and most recently worked as an executive coach and consultant, helping libraries improve productivity and develop superior service through exceptional leadership.
